Lexmark Optra W840 Printer - Power and Performance From This Pro

In this review we will have a peek at the new Lexmark Optra W840 printer using Lexmark Optra W840 toner. This recently released printer is a dedicated monochrome laser designed for workgroups and networking. Deciding which printer matches your companies necessities best is not an easy call to make.

The huge variety of options available makes it hard to know which model is best for your business. There are no end of accessories coming out that promise to increase efficiency and speed. The question is if you actually need them and want to pay for the privilege.

This particular printer is designed as a networking printer. This means it has the right features so that a number of computers can hook up to it as a printer server. For it to do this, it needs a high processing speed and enough RAM to deal with the higher printing volume and longer printing queues multiple users create. Fast printing is also a bonus in order to keep up with busy offices.

This model certainly fits that description. It has a cracking 625 MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM that can be easily upgraded to 768 MB if you need to, high resolution and fast printing. The cost of this printer is around $2,000. Needless to say this is not a home use printer. It is a high specification unit for busy offices that need a dedicated networking printer at an acceptable price.

It handles a variety of media sizes and types. You will be covered for printing on envelopes, cards, fine paper and transparencies and the like. It does not, however, print on polyester and vinyl labels. It can handle sizes up to Letter A size and Folio Size, but does not allow for larger A3 or A2. You will need a larger printer for those kind of capabilities.

The sheet trays included are a large 500 page automatic feeder tray and a smaller multipurpose tray for 100 sheets. Larger trays are available for a premium on the price of the basic model. The truth is that this model comes with a whole array of available upgrades that make it an ideal option for customers who know what they need and do not want to pay for features they are not planning to use.

This model comes with an expansion slot and two input ports, a standard USB port and an older parallel port. Wi-Fi capabilities are not built in and must be purchased as an extra. However, if what you are looking for is a solid workgroup printer you will be happy with the high performance this model can deliver.

The Lexmark Optra W840 printer comes standard with a fast top of the range processing chip of 625 MHz, 256 MB of RAM and plenty of room for upgrades. With a price tag around the $2,000 mark this is most certainly not an option for home users, but a great investment for businesses that want a high quality dedicated monochrome laser printer at a price that does not cost the earth. This is not an easy compromise to find, so give this printer a closer look.
