Xerox Phaser 6250 Printer - Have Confidence in This Color Printer

The Xerox Phaser 6250 printer is produced by the Xerox company and uses their solid ink technology in order to make printing easier and less costly for your business. This printer produces both color and black prints with the Xerox Phaser 6250 toner. The prints produced on this machine are high quality like those made on a laser printer, but are less costly. This model is available in several configurations. More expensive models will hold more paper with extra paper trays and have more memory, as well as other features.

This printer operates on standard 120v 56/60 Hz current. It is designed for use with most newer versions of Windows, beginning with Windows 98. It also has drivers available for use with Macs or Linux systems. Included with the machine are well over 200 fonts. Connectivity and drivers are available to work with your system.

These printers are available in several configurations as far as paper trays and storage. The standard tray takes media from size A4 to the folio size. The printer can handle paper weights up to 80 pounds, as well as many kinds of media. Choosing the second tray can add 500 more sheets of paper and the third can add 500 to 1,000 more sheets of paper. Choosing the maximum on all trays brings the total capacity to 1,600 sheets and most trays are capable feeding the heavier weight papers without adjustment.

Color prints are produced at 26 ppm. The first print will be ready for use in under 12 seconds. The machine offers a power saving mode and from this mode can be back up and ready to print in only a few seconds when needed.

Resolution on this Phaser printer is 2,400 dpi. Even when set at the best photo mode, the printer is able to produce prints in a single pass at 26 ppm. Colors run true through the entire printing process. The machine also offers a draft mode.

With the onboard 700 MHz processor, there is enough power to meet all your printing needs. With the onboard processor, you will not need an external print server. Even at the low end, the model offers 128 MB of RAM. The higher end machines offer 512 MB. Maximum upgrade for all models is to 512 MB of RAM.

This model can print on papers of many different weights, which can be fed directly through the paper trays. In addition, it can print labels and transparencies. If you need to print directly on envelopes, they can be fed through the standard MP tray.

Toner cartridges are available in both standard and high capacity in black, as well as the three colors. Standard toner cartridges are sufficient for about 4,000 prints, while high capacity cartridges will produce approximately 8,000 copies. The machine uses black and the standard three colors to make realistic prints. If you are out of any of the color toners, the machine can be set to black only in order to continue to run.

The Xerox Phaser 6250 printer is designed for use in medium businesses. It uses solid ink technology only available from Xerox. This technology has many of the advantages of laser printers, but the prints are produced at a lower cost. The machine will produce a large number of prints at a very low price.

Go Grownup With the Executive Folio Leather iPad Case Direct From CrazyOnDigital!

Let me begin by stating that when you spy a leather iPad cover for sale in the $20 price range how much could you hope for out of it? When I first saw the Admin Folio from CrazyOnDigital I was actually quite pleased.

The exterior is cloaked in stunning leather which serves to allot it a very grownup, yet somehow laid back feeling. It is quite swish. The Khaki coloration is interestingly compensated for by the red stripe flowing around its center. This stripe is really the closure band which tucks into itself on the polar surface of the cover.

The inside of a CrazyOnDigital iPad cover is lined with ultra cushioned microfiber material. Your screen will stay comfortably bastioned from bumps and bangs.

On the interior surfaces on the left side of the covering there are multiple pockets that are great for securing your credit cards, IDs, and valuable papers also. It helps fix everything where you want it.

The right face features four flexible straps that contain your Apple iPad right where you need it.

You can bend the front around and use the Admin Cover iPad Case as a tablet stand. How outstanding is that?

Getting hands free definitely is a good thing. There is some stuff to consider when you are testing out this pro covering. The pictures can look kind of vivid. When I got to look at it the case is actually a bit more muted when it comes to the colors.

This only served to make it look so much more professional like. Also, the stitching of the cover itself is quite adult looking and just adds to the overall quality.

One slight issue I had was that the on/off switch is hidden by a cross-way holder. This is no big care as it doesn't force the button and you can easily use it satisfactorily. All in all the Leather Executive Case for the Apple iPad is an outstanding housing. It is certainly worth the cost!

How to Make a Simple and Elegant Handmade Book

Once you've made one or two of these you will become addicted. They are great to make as gifts or to keep for you. In any case it's wonderful to have original little booklets in your house or purse. They can be used for journals or elegant invitations. This pamphlet or single-section book uses a 3 or 5 hole sewing method.

Materials:
Paper for text: you can use handmade or commercial
Decorative paper for end papers
Card or heavy weight paper for covers
Decorative sewing threads such as embroidery thread, waxed linen, or narrow ribbon
Craft knife
Ruler
Scissors
Awl
Needle
Pencil
Self-healing cutting mat

Basic Method:

1. Cut the paper to the size you want. Usually 8 to 10 folios (page) are enough for one book. However the number of folios depends on the weight of the paper. Thicker paper will allow fewer folios and thinner paper will allow more folios. The folios will be the pages of your book. Fold the folios in half and slip them inside each other to make a section.

2. You can place a decorative sheet of paper on the outside of the section to act as end papers. The end paper should be the same size. You can create a cover for the book with card or heavy paper approximately 2mm longer and wider than the folios. Put the cover around the outside of the folded folios.

3. The sewing begins by opening the book to the middle. Mark the center with a light pencil. Make a second pencil mark between the first mark and the top of the book. The third mark will be made between center mark and bottom of book. These become the marks for a 3 hole sewing method. This is ideal for smaller books; however if you want the book to be larger then 5 holes are required. The sewing steps are the same in both cases.

4. With an awl or sharp thick needle pierce through all pages including the cover at the 3 pencil marks.

5. Your thread should be about 3 times the height of your book. You can use embroidery thread in gold or any color that works well with your papers, or waxed linen thread. Begin sewing by inserting the needle into the center hole from the inside of the book. Pull thread through to the back and leave about 2-3 inches of thread on the inside to tie final knot. Insert needle in top hole and pull through to inside. Insert needle into the bottom hole and pull through to the back. Insert needle back into the center hole making sure the beginning and the end of the thread are on opposite sides of the long stitch that runs from the top hole to the bottom. Now tie off the ends of the thread across the long thread. The long thread stops the knot from popping out of the hole. You can also try this sewing procedure with very narrow ribbon. Instead of knot you can make a bow with long tails.

6. Now cut a piece of decorative paper the same height as your book and approximately 3-4 inches wider. Wrap the paper around the card cover and fold in the excess over the front and back at the edges. Press the folds with your bone folder to create a nice clean edge.

7. You can also reverse the whole sewing procedure by starting on the outside of the book yet following the same steps. The knot or bow will end up on the outside of the book. Then you can add pretty beads on the tail ends of the bow.If you choose this method then skip Step #6.

How to Start a Big Mail Service

A BIG MAIL SHOULD CONTAIN:

At least three to four Mail order Magazines Circulars containing offers or interest to new mail order dealers. Circulars which the Big Mail Dealer has been to mail.

Do you enjoy reading Mail Dealer magazines? Do you enjoy ordering and receiving "Big Mail?" Do you enjoy working with new Mail Order dealers and opportunity seekers? If your answer is "YES" to all of these questions, then it would probably be profitable and pleasurable for you to start a "Big Mail" service.

In the pages to follow I will show you how to set up a Big Mail Service. I'll show you how to advertise your service and I'll also show you how to use the Big Mails that you receive in your mail to your own advantage. I'll show you how to use commission circulars (how to get a lot of them free!) and I'll also show you how to keep track of them.

We'll talk about co-publishing and we'll discuss circular mailing (you'll learn how to get people to pay you cash to mail their circulars for them!).I'll show a simple trick that will get you a lot of free advertising and I'll show you where to get a free mailing list that will create a lot of new customers for you, if you are willing to put in a little work to get them.

But...before we get into this...I would like to give you a word of caution. Big Mail selling looks easy and it sounds easy IT IS NOT! Selling Big Mails is a lot of work,HARD WORK. And it is NOT a way to get rich quick.

You will probably not make any money at all for a least a few months. In fact, you will have to invest more than you take in. If you are willing to invest a little of your money, and a lot of your time, then you will gain invaluable experience selling Big Mails, and then you will make money. You will gain experience that you could gain nowhere else in the whole world. And if you are alert, creative, and AMBITIOUS, you can eventually turn your mail order business into a very lucrative enterprise.

If you are still interested...and I hope you are..read on!

The first thing you should od is to sit down with the latest issue of MAIL SALE ADVERTISER or POPULAR ADVERTISER and order a least twelve Big Mails. After that, get into the habit of ordering a least one Big Mail EVERYDAY!

Then devote a portion of EACH DAY to STUDYING them. And I do mean STUDY!

Feed your mind and your imagination with all kinds of ideas. The Mail Order Business is a very creative and imaginative one. The more you feed feed you imagination, the more it will do for you!

Set up a personal notebook. I would suggest you divide into four sections:

* Commission Circulars Sources
* Sources of low-cost printing
* Prospective Mailing Customers (Save the circulars that other dealers have been paid to mail. I'll show you why later on .)
* Good ideas.

You can set your personal notebook up any way you like, but I use a loose-leaf notebook and scotch-tape the ads, circulars etc.

Read and re-read every circular and mail order magazine that you can get you hands on. SAVE ANY IDEA THAT APPEALS TO YOU! Start ordering SMALL supplies of "commission circulars" that APPEAL to you. (never try to sell anything merely because it pays BIG commission.)

When you are satisfied that you really want to start selling Big Mails, there are two very practical things you must do.

1. Order a name and address rubber stamp. Be sure it is SMALL enough to use on commission circulars.

2. Open a PERSONAL CHECKING ACCOUNT. Open it in YOUR OWN NAME. When you start to advertise, use your own name. If you do that, there will be no problem when you go to the bank to deposit checks that your customers will send you.

Your next step is to place an ad in a least SIX mail order magazines or ad sheets. In the beginning you will have to use publications that will accept handwritten copy, since you do not yet have "camera ready" ads. Your ad should read something like this:

BIG MAIL-25 cents Commission circulars mailed FREE! (your name and address)

A simple ad like this will pull better than one with a lot of words in it.

You probably already know which magazines and ad sheets you want to advertise in. That is fine! But I would suggest you start off by advertising in at least one or two of the following:

Mail Sale Advertiser
Popular Advertiser
Mail Order Bulletin
Timely Tips

All of these are letter press publications, which means they will set your ad up for you. They appear regularly EVERY MONTH ON TIME, and almost everyone interested in mail order reads them!

Because these publications are CO-PUBLISHABLE, the publishers of each publication will send you 50-100 copies to include in your Big Mails. Your name will appear on your copies as the CO-PUBLISHER. You will get to keep around 50% as your commission on any ads or subscriptions you sell. If you are faithful mailing your copies, you can often make enough profit on ads and subscriptions to pay for all your ads. This way your ads actually cost you nothing.

Each advertiser is also mailing his copies to his customers or mailing list, and every last copy mailed has YOUR ad in it... The printer is also mailing a copy to every person on his subscription list...so, usually within about ten days after your address appears in print, you will start receiving letters with quarters in them asking for Big Mail. Some advertisers, for one reason or another are quite slow in mailing their copies, but this can work to your advantage. You will often get orders two or three months after your ad appears!

COMMISSION CIRCULARS

Long before you start receiving orders for your Big Mail, you should have acquired a starting supply of "commission circulars." You will want to include them in every one of your Big Mails.

Commission circulars are usually 3x6" or 81/2x11" circulars offering such things as: Rubber Stamps Name-address Labels Folios Magazine Samples Mailing Lists Envelopes Printed Stationary Business Directories Catalogue Samples Drop-ship Samples Printed Circulars Formulas Books Mail Order Plans Magazine Subscriptions Name Listing Services Pen Pal Clubs, etc, etc.

Wholesale firms supply commission circulars to mail order dealers, usually at cost. The dealer stamps his name in the blank space under "Order Form" and mails them to prospective customers. When he receives orders (and he will if he mails them regularly), he keeps his commission, which is usually about 50%. He then sends the balance, along with his shipping label, to the wholesaler, who drop-ships the order directly to the customer under the dealer's shipping label.

Commission circulars can be profitable for you, as a Big Mail Dealer, if you are very careful to select only those circulars which appear to MAIL ORDER BEGINNERS. You will soon learn that gift items and general merchandise rarely appeal to people who are ordering Big Mails, unless you are offering them on wholesale basis. (Safari boots, transistor radios, hunting knives, automatic can-openers, $15.95 necklaces are nice, and they can be sold by mail...but not to mail order beginners!)

If you work at it, you can make a lot of extra money by including good commission circulars in your mails. Test a few hundred copies of each commission circular. If it evokes no interest, discontinue it. But if it produces and order or two, then include one in every piece of mail you send. When you have found a circular that "pulls,"try to have them printed with your name and address on them. (printed circulars will often pull FIVE times better than stamped ones.)

Don't mail poorly printed circulars. They tend to make your entire mailing look sloppy> You will also find that 6x9" and 8 1/2x11" circulars pull better than 3x6", although some 3x6's pull surprisingly well.

Once your ad appears ( starting COMMISSION CIRCULARS MAILED FREE) you will start receiving commission circulars. Test every circular that is given to you. Push the winners, discontinue the duds. You will eventually develop a list of real money makers to include in your Big Mails.

Most of the suppliers of commission circulars are honest people. They offer items of real worth. But occasionally you will find circulars that you should not mail. They will get you in TROUBLE! * Adult Offers (pornography). Even if you do not object to this, some of the customers will...and some of your customers may be minors.

* "Stuff and Address Envelopes at Home..Send a $1.00 for your Starting Kit," These offers are illegal. People have been convicted in court for selling them. Beside, the plans are worthless.

* Chain letters--These are also illegal. Beware of any circular that says you will receive $20,000 in sixty days if you will mail a dollar and "follow the instructions, etc."

There is one more thing I would caution you about. There are about 40-50 standard folios that have been around the Mail Order Business for the last twenty years. They are EXCELLENT folios, well written, well printed, and the advice in them is absolutely valid. But it is a waste of time trying to sell them to mail order beginners. Most of them already know where to get them at wholesale prices! If you receive FREE commission circulars offering these folios, by all means, mail them. You may get an order or two. But if you are going to buy expensive circulars, be sure you are offering something NEW something which EVERY mail order dealer has not already seen at least one hundred times!

FACTS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS!

As a Big Mail Dealer, you will be selling many things. So that you can fill each order accurately and promptly, I suggest that you start another looseleaf notebook Divide it into three sections:

1 Commission Circular Information
2 Co-Publishing Information
3 Advertising Schedule

1. Commission Circular Information---Every time you receive a new supply of commission circulars, sit down and examine them. (Sometimes you will receive two or three varieties in one envelope.) Tape one sample of each circular in your notebook. Underneath it write:

* Name and Address of the Drop-shipper
* Amount to forward to the Drop-shipper
* How to obtain additional circulars. (Are they available with
your name and address imprinted on them?)

2. Co-publishing Information--Most publishers of mail order magazines will send a "Fact Sheet." If they do, simply scotch-tape the sheet in your notebook. If not, record these facts yourself:

*Name and Address of Printer *How much to forward on new advertising, subscriptions, etc

3. Advertising Schedule--To keep your ads running CONTINUOUSLY, you will have to keep track of "closing dates" (the last date on which a publisher will accept advertising for his next issue.) Here is a very simple method to use:

Take a page of common notebook paper. At the top of the page, write the name of the month. Then number down the page from 1 to 31. (Use one line for each day of the month.)

The closing date for Mail Sale Advertiser is the 15th of the month, but you will want to mail your ad on the 5th of the month (always mail your ads in TEN DAYS EARLY.) So next to the number 5, write down the code letters "MSA." If you check this sheet religiously every day, you will never forget a closing date.

Before you mail your ad, turn to the page for the following month and make a notation of that month's closing date. If you will use this system ( or your own variation), you will remember every deadline, whether you are advertising in five magazines of five hundred!

CIRCULAR MAILING

Once your Big Mail ads are appearing regularly, you will start to receive orders for them regularly. As soon as you are averaging five a day, you can advertise yourself as a CIRCULAR MAILER. It's easy to get started. Each time you renew your Big Mail Ad, send in another ad like this. (As co-publisher, your ads cost half the advertised price!)

100 250 500

3x6 .50 1.25 2.25
6x9 .60 2.50 2.50
9x12 1.00 2.00 4.00

These prices are given only as examples. The postal rates and other costs change and you should check the ads currently running Circular Mailers and charge about the same rates. Cut-rate prices will NOT get you more orders.

A circular mailing ad will almost ALWAYS pay for itself immediately. ( Incidentally, many dealers have tried to run a combination Big Mail and Circular Mailing ads. They do work half as well as TWO SEPARATE ADS!)

As soon as you receive a circular mailing order, send your customers a sample mailing. Be sure it is neat and be sure it includes the LATEST issues of several mail order magazines.

Then include ONE of his circulars in every Big Mail until you have finished mailing them. If you have not received any more circulars to mail, send him a friendly thank you not and let him know that you have finished mailing his circulars. Tell him you hope he receives some orders from your mailing. Include some new circulars from new advertisers and a NEW magazine. If he has any more circulars to mail, he will likely send them to YOU!

Remember, circular mailing depends on REPEAT customers. Never exaggerate mailing capacity ( either in personal letters or ads.) If you really try to get orders for your customers, they will be back for more!

HOW TO GET FREE ADS

There are many editors of mail order magazines and ad sheets who will print your ads free if you will mail 100 to 200 copies of their publication. Here is a very effective way to get them to run YOUR ads:

Take a sheet of white typing paper. Type the following words on it.

PRINTERS PUBLISHERS: If you will print any of these ads in your publication, I will mail 100 copies for you FREE! (With co-publishing rights, I'll mail 200 copies!) Note that all of these ads are camera ready for your convenience.

Then use a rubber-cement to paste copies of ALL YOUR DIFFERENT ADS on the sheet! (If your ads have been printed on colored paper, bleach them before you paste them up. Pour a little clorox over them, until the color disappears. Rinse them in water, and dry them on a piece of flat cardboard.)

Once your circular is pasted up (camera-ready), take it to your local instant photo offset printer and have 500 or 1000 copies printed on WHITE paper. (Be sure its on white paper.) Enclose one of these circulars in every mailing. You'll be amazed at the results!

WHERE TO GET GOOD MAILING LISTS FREE

If you advertise regularly, you will get a lot of response to your ads. But if you will do a little specialized direct mailing, you can double your business almost immediately. Here's how:

Imagine that you have just received your mailing copies of TIMELY TIPS from the printer. If you look at your self, you discover that you still have 14 of lasts month's issue left to mail. Sit down and make up 14 SPECIALIZED mailings. In each mailing, enclosed:

1. One copy of last month's TIMELY TIPS
2. One copy of each circular you have been paid to mail.
3. One copy of your new FREE MAILING FOR FREE ADVERTISING
circular.

To whom do you mail them? COMPILE YOUR MAILING LIST FROM THOSE BIG MAILS YOU HAVE BEEN ORDERING EVERY DAY! Mail them too:

* CIRCULAR MAILING PROSPECTS--Each time you receive Big Mail, examine all the circulars. Who has paid the dealer to mail circulars for them? If they have paid him, THEY WILL ALSO PAY YOU...if you will take the time to send them a sample mailing!

* NEW AD-SHEETS AND MAIL ORDER MAGAZINES--Whenever you see the announcement of a new publication, send a sample mailing and be sure to enclose your Free Mailing for Free Advertising circular. You'll get many, many free ads, if you work at it.

* NEW MAIL ORDER ADVERTISERS--Save the names of new advertisers in the mail order magazines or ad-sheets. You'll be amazed at how responsive they will be to your mailings!

Every time you receive new mailing copies, mail out the remaining copies of last month's issues to the categories listed above and your mail order business will grow faster than you ever dreamed it could. You'll be surprised at the new business you will be able to generate using this method.

WHERE DO YOU GO FROM HERE?

I honestly can't answer that question! Only you have the answer. If you are ambitious--if you are willing to develop your imagination--if you are willing to experiment with new ideas....the sky is the limit!

Don't let anyone tell you that Big Mail Selling and Circular Mailing is only for beginners. There are SUCCESSFUL mail order dealers who have been selling Big Mails and mailing circulars for twenty-five years! If you really love it, don't ever give it up!

What direction your mail order business takes is entirely up to you. I hope you will keep your ads running, and I hope you will expand your business by constantly adding new publications to your advertising list.

Keep your eyes and ears open. Saturate yourself with fresh, new and imaginative ideas. I hope you'll keep excited about the Mail Order business...I hope that ten years from now, You'll love it and be more involved than you are today.

Mail Order is far more than just a money-making business for me. It's a way of life! And I hope it is your way of life, too!

Literature and Literary Studies Center: A Sample Proposal

I. RATIONALE

It is a global truth that those nations which are economically stable have a wide scope in the field of literature, whether it is in English, in American or in their native language. The United States and The United Kingdom, for instance, produce the most number of best-sellers for writing is not just a hobby but a serious occupation. Consequently, everyone knows the great masters of literature and their styles like Edgar Allan Poe, D.H. Lawrence, Graham Greene, James Joyce, E. M. Forster, Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen, the Bronte Sisters, and many more. Writing as a career did not even decline as time passes by because readers all over the world have continually supported them. Critical readers have seen and praised the great works of contemporary writers such as J.K. Rowling, Danielle Steele, Robert Ludlum, and the like. Writers in the US produce volumes of novels and other books not only because their country is economically sufficient but also because the writers themselves have the mastery of the language-the English language. However, non-English-speaking nations have also produced great masterpieces in English. We see Indian masters of literature like Kamala Markandaya, R.K. Narayan, Raja Rao, and Khushwant Singh. Though they are Indian nationals, they have written novels in English which are widely acclaimed as masterpieces of world literature.

In other non-English-speaking nations, though most of their literary works are written in their native tongue, the quality of their literature is indeed excellent, if not considered masterpieces. Their masterpieces' forms and contents are undoubtedly unique and unrivalled even with English-speaking nations' writings. Russian writers such as Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov, Maxim Gorky, and Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Japanese writers like Yukio Mishima, Murakami Haruki, Kenzaburo Oe and Yasunari Kawabata are only the few who have shown the world that literature is not merely for the English-speaking nations but for all human beings "who have fought the flesh, only to discover that there are more terrifying problems of the spirit."

Undeniably, literature has been with humans since the dawn of time. In the countries mentioned, teaching literature as a work of art is considered one of the challenging tasks that a teacher must face. The philosophical truth that literature reflects life has always been challenged by those who believed that literature is not a passive field of study but an active one. Literature may and can change the world, as John Viscount Morly (1838-1923) stated, "literature is the most seductive, the most deceiving, and the most dangerous of all professions." His statement fairly sums it all up why writers have always embraced and loved literature-as a field of study, as a profession, and as a work of art.

In the Philippines, the Golden Period of Literature in English, when the country has produced a great number of National Artist in Literature and other notable writers, is but a memory. At that time, names like Nick Joaquin, F. Sionil Jose, Manuel E. Arguilla, NVM Gonzalez, Bienvenido Santos, Arturo B. Rotor, Amador Daguio, Rafael Zulueta da Costa, Kerima Polotan-Tuvera, Paz Marquez Benitez, Aida Rivera Ford, etc. ring a bell. Each name represents a distinct style in writing and each literary artist has inspired a modern contemporary Filipino writer of today. Inspired by these legendary Filipino writers, famous contemporary writers such as Jose Dalisay Jr., Edgardo Maranan, Conrado de Quiros, Charlson Ong, Gregorio Brillantes, and many more have sprung. Nowadays, literary artists from different walks of life have begun to inherit the glorious and grand task of writing about the Filipino way of life artistically. Undeniably, these people have embraced literature not just as a hobby or a way to escape reality but as a means of opening the eyes of their fellow Filipinos about the reality of life. While doing this, they never sacrificed the artistry of literature. They have believed that literature indeed is an art form which also has its purpose, not just as art for art's sake. Unfortunately, many Filipinos have misunderstood the statement that literature has a purpose for they have used literature merely as a motivating factor in studying the English language.

Today, the idea that literature can only be used as a springboard to language lessons is becoming passé. Educators, together with the people in the government and higher-ups, have started opening their eyes that literature should be approached as a work of art, and not only as a means to study grammar. One piece of evidence is the "re-marriage" of the language and literature in Philippine high schools. The Department of Education (DepEd) has begun mandating government high schools to teach literature as a masterpiece, as a work of art; thus, making the students realized the aesthetic value and social significance of a literary text. Certainly, literature may be of good help in studying grammar but it must be first approached as a separate lesson. It is a good thing that the government has done its part in declaring, though implicitly, that literature will forever remain in the curriculum of basic education.

In Central Luzon State University (CLSU), literature is being taught separately as a work of art. Generally, there are 2 literature subjects being taught in all degree offerings in the university, as mandated by the Commission on Higher Education in CMO No. 59 s.1996, namely: Introduction to Literature, & Philippine Literature in English. The College of Education (CED), with her Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) major in English, is the only college which is offering more literature subjects, as well as language courses. Currently, the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is opening her doors to students who would like to study the English language, as it evolves continuously, and Literature, as a form of art, with her Bachelor of Arts in Language and Literature (ABLL). The ABLL degree will commence accepting enrolees on School Year 2011-2012. Henceforth, there will be two degree offerings that would primarily study the English language and the Literature of the world.

However, the proponent of this proposal observes a problem that might later on give a substantial hindrance not only in the execution, implementation and accreditation of the ABLL degree but also to the professors who will be handling the major subjects and to the ABLL students most especially, i. e. the need for a literature center to support the ABLL program as well as the individuals concerned.

Noteworthy to say, international universities, such as Harvard University, have literature centers or their counterparts such as creative writing centers to support and promote literature in their respective departments and programs. In Manila, De La Salle University (DLSU) has her Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center (BNSCWC) to serve as an outlet for the promising writers of the country as well as to promote literature not only throughout the university but throughout the nation as well. In the Philippine Normal University (PNU), in the College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature, the Department of Linguistics, Bilingual Education and Literature (LBEL) has her own library, aside from the library of the university, to cater to the needs of AB/BSE Literature majors, and the professors as well, in studying the major works of literary masters of the world and of the country. Truly, these universities have seen the needs of their children beforehand.

In CLSU, fortunately, the language program is being supported abundantly. Even before the approval of the ABLL, the professors of the BSEd English majors have already focused on training them in the English language. Consequently, CLSU has its Center for Language Education and Research (CLEAR) which is based in the College of Arts & Sciences. It has been conceived to cater to the English communication needs of students, professionals and non-professionals inside and outside the University. It also encourages and accommodates language researches. CLEAR takes pride of its competent lecturers in all aspects of language skills developments. These teachers are also proficient in technical report preparations, editing, and script-writing as well as coaching for program-hosting. Thus, the language programs of both ABLL and BSEd have a solid foundation, which can also stand for reinforcement and outlet for any endeavour the students and other professionals would like to undergo in the area of the English language. Implicitly, Literature does not have its home in the area and specialization of the CLEAR.

Even in the field of humanities, Literature does not have its own place. The Department of English & Humanities have always focused on Fine Arts, i.e. painting, sculpture, architecture, drawing, engraving, etc. Pieces of evidence for this partiality is the DEH's initiation and creation of activities such as "Littheatour," "The Thespian Nights," and "The Melpothalian Knights Show" (coinages for contests of play presentations), and "Street Dancing" (a contest in exhibiting different types of dances). Subsequently, the university has created "The Museum of the First," a museum that shows antiques in the province of Nueva Ecija, as a means of support for the promotion of arts in CLSU and also as a means of recognition to the humanities section of the DEH.

In the university, research centers cater more to applied science and academic researches. There is no office which may accommodate literary studies, nor Philippine studies, nor even cultural studies. Indeed, literature seems to be out of place not only in the Department of English & Humanities, or College of Arts & Sciences herself, but also in the university as a whole.

Forlornly, the proponent has thoroughly perceives that in the field of English only the language aspect has been systematically and wholeheartedly well-looked-after; in the field of humanities, fine arts are the only considered artistic; and, in the field of researches, the sciences are the only ones prevailing. Literature has been disregarded, if not totally ignored. The university indeed needs to update her priority fields. With her evolution as an international university, she must completely be aware of her inadequacies, especially in the field of literature, so she can suffice everything her students and professors need to be able to join the ranks of critically acclaimed Filipino writers, if not to be able to compete with foreign literary writers.

With these in mind, the proponent finds it timely to set up a "Literature and Literary Studies Center (LLSC)."

II. OBJECTIVES

The Literature and Literary Studies Center's main objective is to serve as support for the literature programs of Central Luzon State University.

Specifically, LLSC should be able to:

1. be the center for literary researches, and to accommodate the literary studies of professors and students of CLSU;

2. provide a library of canonical books and literary writings of contemporary Philippine writers as well as foreign writers for the students and professors of literature in CLSU;

3. collect foreign and Philippine classical films and film adaptations of masterpieces in the field of literature, so students and professors may easily access these in reinforcing the discussion inside the classroom;

4. produce a literary folio which would exhibit the creative writings of both professors and students in CLSU;

5. initiate creative writing competitions, such as story writing and poetry writing, to sharpen the potentials of the students in writing literary pieces; and,

6. provide additional lecture for students of literature.

III. COMPONENTS

A. Literary Research

The LLSC shall be the center for literary researches. It shall be the outlet for of students' and professors' critical papers that can be found of quality. The center shall also promote and encourage literary researches on classical and contemporary literature through seminars and workshops. The LLSC shall have its own collections of canonical novels and award-winning contemporary books. The library shall serve as knowledge resource and support for the BSEd and ABLL students as well as the professors who teach literature subjects.

Moreover, the Literature Center shall also promote primary sources in literary researches. With the dawn of internet, students have learned to surf the net and find the information they need quickly. They have learned to consume more information and accept other people's ideas. Consequently, they have forgotten to formulate their own hypothesis, their own theory on literature. The literature center aims to change this, i.e. information from the internet should come from the students themselves.

Looking forward, the library shall be a very helpful venue for students, faculty and the university not only in terms of academic studies and research but also in the future accreditation of Bachelor of Arts in Language and Literature.

C. Audio-Visual Collections

The LLSC shall be responsible for the acquisition and preservation of classic films. The films that would be part of the LLSC shall be both from the Philippines and from other foreign countries that can be helpful in the study of literature or culture. Admittedly, movie adaptations of literary classics and contemporary works have been helpful in motivating students to read. Also, these films may be subjected to comparative studies.

D. Literary Folio

The LLSC shall collect and publish the creative writings and literary researches of both the professors and students of CLSU. The Literary Folio shall be the outlet of promising writers both in the field of criticism and creative writing. Published articles and creative works shall be the property of the LLSC; thus, the LLSC shall own the copyright of the published materials. With enough articles and fund, the LLSC shall produce its literary folio annually.

E. Writing Competitions

The LLSC shall promote creative writing through initiating writing competitions such as short story writing, poetry writing, essay writing, script-writing and playwriting competitions. The winners of these competitions shall automatically be published in the Literary Folio.

In addition, since the LLSC's home college is the College of Arts & Sciences, the winners of these competitions shall be the representatives of the college in other collegiate writing competitions. Likewise, the university may also choose from among the winners the representatives for the Development Council of State Universities and Colleges III (DCSUC III) Literary-Musical Festival and other national press conferences.

F. Tutorial Sessions / Seminars

The LLSC shall also provide group or one-on-one lectures to help the students have basic knowledge in creative writing, literary theory and criticism, and the like. The center shall also be responsible in conducting lecture/seminar for the teachers of literature both within and outside CLSU.

IV. LLSC PERSONNEL

The LLSC shall be headed by a Director, whose main job is to formulate new projects and proposal with regards to literature, and also, supervise the accomplishments of the annual projects of the center such as the literary folio, writing competitions and seminars.

The director shall be appointed by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The director shall assign qualified teachers to personally deal with the different components of the LLSC. He / She shall also be responsible to any committee needed by the LLSC to accomplish all the projects the center has planned during the school year.

V. PROPOSED OFFICE

The Office of the Literature and Literary Studies Center shall be in the main building of the College of Arts & Sciences, CLSU, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, 3120, Philippines.

The old office of the Department of English & Humanities which is now divided into two offices, The Reading Laboratory and Faculty Room, shall be the proposed Office of the Literature and Literary Studies Center. The Faculty room shall be the temporary LLSC Office to avoid further expenses. Moreover, the office is indeed appropriate to be placed beside the Reading Laboratory since reading is a vital aspect of literature.
