Finest Cheap Leather iPad Cover

Due to the apple iPad being a far from cheap item, you'd presume to get a few reasonable accessories thrown in. Unfortunately, the cover supplied doesn't in actuality come up to scratch. Consequently maybe most people end up buying an additional iPad Case. If you would like a great leather iPad Case, however do not actually want to squander too much money, then keep reading. But if you are in a hurry, click on the links at the bottom and go straight away to the particulars page for my much loved real leather apple iPad cases.

For me, the best low priced leather iPad case has to be the CrazyOnDigital black leather jacket for the iPad. This is selling at the moment for a smidgen below $20 which will of course be amazingly great value. In my opinion there are a bunch of preferred iPad covers due to the higher quality leather used in their design. Nevertheless, for a discount buy this one plainly could not be beaten. This does all you want it too, the edging is okay plus it looks pretty smart. Probably not ultra pretty or refined, nevertheless surely smart. Often something traditional is all that you really want and this is definitely that. Black leather, soft lining, certainly a means of supplying the fantastic Apple tablet a little security and also keeping it low in weight and easy to carry.

More importantly it affords a neat method by which to keep your iPad clean and scrape free. I especially like the detail that this Apple iPad Cover doesn't contain any stupid pockets or business card slots. As often they will be positioned opposite the screen and frankly the lovely display is the entire point of the iPad tablet and I would not desire to wreck it by pushing business cards and papers in front of it!

This is a folio type case for the iPad tablet. The surface is dark, textured leather whilst the interior is soft micro-fiber which cushions the tablet slightly. There are 4 stretchy corner straps to grasp the device in place so it would be quite secure. Still this is not a case for swinging around your apple iPad - or else dropping for that matter. It is more of a dust cover than any variety of real defensive shell. For that you may want to pay a little bit more for the finest napa leather iPad Cases with lots more padding.

Call Accounting and PMS Interfaces

Hotels/motels use a PMS (Property Management System) for handling operational data and billing guests (through folios w/room, amenity and other charges). Call accounting systems interface to a PMS so priced call records are posted directly to the guest folios.

Different PMS' use different interfaces. Interfaces differ in how call record data is packaged. Some call accounting systems come pre-programmed from the manufacture, while others must be configured onsite. Most call accounting systems use one of three different types of interfaces: MR (rarely used), and the two most popular, covered here, HB and HX.

PMS-HB. These systems need a line feed (LF) before the call record and three control characters (line feed/LF, carriage return/CR, and form feed/FF) after the call record. PMS-HB systems must recognize one of these three as the "end". In testing, FF may catch installers/techs - FF is a form feed and sends paper or a monitor to "top of page" - look back a page for data!

PMS-HB supports 2-way ("hand-shaking") and 1-way communication between PMS and call accounting systems ("CAS"). In 2-way mode, PMS and CAS can handle acknowledgment or non-acknowledgment with each call record. The CAS is "told" to send or that the call record was received okay or, if not, to hold or that call record needs to be re-sent. Hand-shaking control characters include: ACK (ASCII hex 06) and NAK (ASCII hex 21) - (or lower case "y" and "n"). PMS-HB systems usually do NOT require hand-shaking, so when none exists, CAS systems send call records and assume reception was okay.

PMS-HX. HX call accounting systems ask permission to send call records to ensure the PMS is ready, by first sending ENQ (ASCII hex 05) - an enquiry. If ready, PMS sends an ACK (ASCII hex 06), so the CAS sends an STX (ASCII hex 02) - start-of-text - before the call record, followed by an ETX (ASCII hex 03) - end-of-text and a block check character. The block check character allows the PMS to do a parity check for accuracy of the CR received. If the PMS "likes" the call record, it sends an ACK to the CAS.

It is helpful for installers/techs to use a laptop or monitor on the PMS-to-CAS connection (Laptops are even better w/communication software like HyperTerminal - available on most Windows systems). Some of the communications packages show control characters as icons; e.g. ENQ is a club, ACK an ace, etc. The software often lets you send control characters by pressing ctrl (control key) plus another key. Example: to send ACK, press ctrl with the F key.

Once communication parameters and hand shaking characters are matched up between the CAS and the PMS, you're running! Call accounting manuals usually include very detailed explanations of PMS interface protocols. Manuals or specific tech information can often be downloaded from the CAS manufacturers' site.

Self-Published Printed Information Booklets Still Sell Big

Despite what is being claimed everywhere on the WWW, e-books are not the absolute be-all-and-end-all of published format. There is still a huge buyer demand for information printed the "old-fashioned way" -- on paper. The very technology that spawned the WWW also provides the ability for individual self-publishers to produce top-quality books that can be readily sold for a handsome profit.

Strange to say, that can be a problem in itself. Many would-be self-publishers of books seem dazzled by the variety of impressive production features that are possible with new print on demand [POD] technology. They visualize their name on fat full-length novels printed with perfect-bound spines, elaborate text formatting, varnished covers, and four-colour artwork.

Unfortunately, this yen for heft and glitz is not only expensive, it overlooks the fact that every self-published book is very difficult to market and sell, no matter how handsomely packaged or aggressively promoted.

Instead, entrepreneurial authors could be far more successful by producing modestly-sized publications that require only ordinary word processing software, simply printed on typewriter paper held together with staples or spiral binding. Millions of these little-known special interest printed publications are published yearly, enjoyed by individuals who buy them regardless of finished appearance; valued for content that, while simple, is not available elsewhere.

The "information market" comprises what is probably the largest, and certainly most lucrative, segment of self-publishing today. It meets an enormous on-going demand for fact-filled booklets, folios, reports, guides, manuals, and directories - short compilations of specific information on a variety of everyday subjects: "how-to" instructions on everyday subjects, and guidance on health, hobbies, finance, or romance.

It's much easier than authors might guess to start profiting from information they possess already. People crave written knowledge and advice that somehow educates or enlightens them, and pay for it readily, regardless of format appearance. Demand for practical information is so large and diverse in topics and interests, it offers unlimited opportunities for self-published authors.

Subject matter varies widely. For instance, Julia Griggs Havey parlayed her self-published Awaken The Diet Within into a lucrative career on the lecture circuit. Don Massey wrote a 64-page manual about buying and selling used cars, and has made well over $150,000 from it already. J. Conrad Levinson, now the wealthy author of Guerrilla Marketing books and seminars, started out in 1974 selling a 30-page booklet for $10.00. Half a million people bought Ted Nichols' instructions on How To Form Your Own Corporation. My own 90-page Military Publications International Directory is now in its 23rd annual edition, continuing to be a steady and popular perennial.

Other successes are legion, with short folios on thousands of topics ranging from folk medicine, pet care, and sex manuals, to money-making plans, genealogy, and cookbooks. So if you have published similar informative topics as e-books, grasp the opportunity now to maximize your profits by converting the electronic material to printed form as well.

What Leather Padfolios Say About You

Whether you have been doing business for several years or are just getting started, take a serious look at Leather Padfolios. These functional and well-designed organizers make a statement whenever you carry one into a business meeting and want to close the deal. Whether your career is a sales person, a lawyer, or other business professional, you will want one that is comfortable and that you can use constantly.

Made from fine grain materials, these hold up well to years of abuse. Look for ones that allow you to organize your files and other papers without having to scramble through briefcases or folders. Your colleagues will appreciate how organized you are when you arrive and have everything in one handy location.

While there are so many options available, you will want one that has those you would need over a period of time. There are those with pockets for phones, business cards, flash drives, and more. It is always enjoyable to discover the variety of things you can carry in your folio. Of course, they will always have a place for taking notes and holding your writing tools.

Whenever someone close to you is celebrating a promotion or a graduation, these make fine presents that will be used long after the event is celebrated. Few will not appreciate being able to make a bold statement with their folio when attending meetings or interviewing potential employers. These also make an excellent incentive for staff members and it would never hurt to have an extra one for you.

One of the nicest things you can do before gifting one is to have it embossed. Personalizing the folio in a subtle and elegant font will make the owner proud to carry and display it. Consider adding a few additional accessories inside so they are already prepared to use it.

Keep in mind what your primary function in the workplace is when acquiring one for yourself or others. Some offices are very relaxed and you can select one that suits your personality with extravagant or muted colors. Most financial corporations, however, would prefer you were not too wild in your color choice. Regardless of how you may be using it, ensure it meets all of your needs and you feel relaxed when carrying it.

You will feel confident and secure walking into your next business conference knowing you are noticed for how serious you are about staying organized. Leather padfolios make the boldest of statements whether in the courtroom, the interview, or the sales presentation. Be assured you will command the respect you deserve and others will respect you more when you make such a powerful statement of how organized you are.

What Really Sells in Mail Order Magazines

You can only make money with the Mail Order Magazines if you understand exactly WHO reads them. The Mail Order Magazines are trade papers read almost exclusively by Mail Order Dealers or by Opportunity Seekers, who are in reality aspiring Mail Order Dealers. They will only buy merchandise that will help them in the operation of a Mail Order Business.

It is almost always a waste of money to advertise merchandise which is intended for general consumption in the Mail Order Magazines... unless you are offering it on a wholesale or drop-ship basis.

Below is a brief description of 22 products or services that can be sold successfully through the Mail Order Magazines.

1. RUBBER STAMPS - Every Mail Order Dealer purchases at least one name and address rubber stamp. He also purchases "stock stamps" with slogans such as "Big Mails Wanted", "Commission Circulars Wanted", "Third Class Mail", "Your Ad Solicited", etc. Rubber stamps sell well in the Mail Order magazines because dealers use them in the conduct of their business.

2. MAILING LISTS - Mail Order Dealers constantly buy mailing lists of the ever present Opportunity Seekers, New Mothers, Book Buyers, Gift Buyers, etc. You can sell mailing lists on plain paper or gummed labels. Naturally you can charge more for the lists on gummed labels.

3. BIG MAILS - Anyone who regularly advertises "Big Mails" in the Mail Order magazines will get orders for them. Big Mails consists of envelopes full of Mail Order Magazines, Adsheets and circulars of every imaginable kind. The "Big Mail Order Dealer" earns his profit by selling a variety of sizes of ad space and subscriptions in the publications which he co-publishes. He also makes money from the items offered on the circulars which he includes in his big mails.

4. CIRCULAR MAILING SERVICE - Set up an efficient, and a good dependable mailing service so that dealers can get their circulars into the hands of real Mail Order buyers, advertise it regularly in the Mail Order Magazines. and you will soon have all the circular mailing business you can possibly handle.

5. PRINTING - Every mail order dealer buys printing. He buys envelopes, sales letters, circulars, booklets, catalogs, adsheets, brochures, price lists, letterheads, mail order magazines and a thousand other things. If you do mimeographing, letter press or offset printing, advertise your service in the mail order magazines. It is probably the mail order magazines' Number One All-Time Profit Maker.

6. INFORMATION FOLIOS - Mail order dealers will always buy information that will help them succeed in the mail order business. Folios that deal with any practical aspect of mail order selling can be sold through the mail order magazines. If you have produced your own folio and are willing to drop-ship orders for other dealers you will definitely make money.

7. DROP-SHIP AND WHOLESALE OFFERS - If you have a large stock of merchandise which is suitable for mail order sales, and are willing to supply it on a drop-ship (single order at wholesale prices) or on a wholesale basis, then you should advertise in the Mail Order Magazines. Dealers are constantly looking for new products to sell by mail. If you plan to sell on a wholesale basis only, you should offer your product in very small wholesale lots, if possible. Most Mail Order Dealers are part-timers and do not have vast sums of money to invest in untested merchandise.

8. SAMPLE COPIES OF MAIL ORDER MAGAZINES - Mail order dealers have a very insatiable appetite for new mail trade magazines, which is why hundreds of them come into existence and then disappear every year. If you publish or co-publish a mail order magazine, advertise sample copies of it in other publications and you will get requests for it.

Regard your sample copy as a "leader item" or as a "good will builder". It should be your way of getting your other offers into the hands of a very many prospective mail order buyers. You will probably sell some ads, but do not expect to sell too many subscriptions. Except for a few of the leading publications, very few people subscribe to mail order magazines.

9. GUMMED LABELS - Labels of any kind are "naturals" for many of the Mail Order Magazines. (Name and address labels, shipping labels, addressing labels, slogan labels, etc.)

10. NAME LISTING SERVICE - Whether he admits it or not, most every mail order dealer is a "Big Mail Addict". If you compile mailing lists and work with another dealer who does, dealers will pay to put their names on the lists. You can advertise you name listing service in any mail order magazine and get orders for it.

11. COMMISSION CIRCULARS - There are circular mailers who watch every issue of every mail order magazine, always looking for new sources of commission circulars. There is no better way to advertise commission circulars than by placing ads in the mail order magazines.

12. COPY WRITING SERVICE - If you have a natural flair for writing ads, sales letters and circulars... and if you have a good basic knowledge of mail order selling , you can sell your services through many of the better mail order magazines. There are very few good mail order copy writers at present. Here is a very basic need... can you fill it?

13. AD DESIGN - Another service which is greatly in demand, the commercial artist who can create eye-catching ads and circulars which dealers can use to sell their products. There are only a few dealers who are now offering this service, but there is room for a dozen or so.

14. TYPESETTING - Most mail order printers and magazines now require "camera-ready" copy. This had created a big demand for dealers who offer a quality, reasonably price typesetting service. At present there are dealers who do mail order typesetting that have so much business they don't even bother to advertise..

Related to typesetting, are the "clip-art" books which are used by dealers who prepare their own "camera-ready" copy... Right now as always, you'll find clip-art books advertised in mail order publications.

15. PEN PAL, LONELY HEARTS MAGAZINES - For some reason, you will find that the mail order magazines have always been good places to sell these types of publications. It may be because they are the only kinds of magazines, other than the mail order magazines that are co-publishable.

Most mail order magazines will accept ads for legitimate matrimonial and pen pal magazines; however, very few will accept any "adults only" ads. Too many readers object and some mail order dealers are minors.

16. HOBBY MAGAZINES - You can sell almost any kind of hobby publications through the mail order magazines. This is because many dealers handle hobby merchandise and are always looking for new ways to sell it. Many dealers and readers are hobbyists and collectors themselves.

17. FORMULAS - Dealers buy formulas for two reasons. Some dealers reprint the formula and sell it by running ads in national publications. ("Sure way to kill cockroaches", etc.) Some even manufacture the product itself and sell it by mail.

Closely related to formula selling is recipes selling. If you can create new recipes or have exceptional ones, you advertise and sell recipes over and over again.

18. CATALOGS - If you can produce low cost catalogs which dealers can mail to their customers offering books, novelties, gift items, baby merchandise, printed forms, etc., you would be well advised to offer your services in the mail order magazines.

19. UNPRINTED DEALERS MERCHANDISE - If you can supply merchandise which the dealer can use in his mail order business, at bargain prices, you can sell it profitably in the mail order magazines. Examples: unprinted envelopes, typewriter ribbons, addressing labels, stencils, scratch pads, etc. There are a few successful dealers who even sell large, bulky items like typewriters, mimeograph machines, file cabinets, paper cutters, and printing presses by mail.

20. AD SPACE - Every mail order dealer buys ad space. If you publish or co-publish a mail order magazine, tabloid or adsheet, you can sell ad space by advertising it in other mail order magazines.

21. ADS TO RUN UNDER YOUR OWN NAME - Can you supply ready-made ad copies which other dealers can run under their own names and fill their orders on a drop ship basis? If so, print up your ads and sell them through the mail order magazines. If you can supply "camera ready" ads and circulars, so much the better!

22. MAIL ORDER PLANS - Opportunity seekers are always looking for new mail order plans. If you have some practical legitimate workable plans that others can use to make money by mail, print them up and advertise them in the mail order magazines.

You will find that 99% of all the ads in the mail order magazines fall into one of the categories listed above. If you are selling a product or service that fits into one of these categories, you can safely advertise it in the mail order magazines.

Why Bother With Literature? Students And Teachers And Writing In China

When I was teaching literature and writing courses at a private liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, members of the faculty were asked to prepare a statement justifying the existence of their major programs. Our vice-president at the time (there was an incredible turn-over in presidents and vice-presidents at that college) seemed to be serious about education* and directed the faculty to answer specific questions regarding the importance of what we were doing. Since I was the coordinator of the English program (a program situated in the Humanities Department which included literature, philosophy, religion, speech, film studies, and media communications), I provided answers which I felt underscored the importance of what we were doing.

I still feel that these are important issues for an English program, whether standing separately as an individual department in a large university or as a part of a humanities division in a small college. I have taught writing and literature in two private colleges, two community colleges, and one major university in the USA. Time has not, despite the current and fashionable interest in technology, eroded the importance of concentrating in writing, literature, and language studies. This belief, therefore, caused me to congratulate my students in at a level-two technological university in Anshan, China-- and in Ningbo, China, at a level-three technological university, which is associated with a level-one university in Hangzhou--for majoring in English and for taking literature courses. The reasons I have done so can be found in the answers to the questions put to me below. I have, where necessary, generalized the answers to include a scale that is more global.

A. When students finish an English Language and Literature program, they will be able to do what?

1. These students will be able to realize that literature, like any art, is not created in a vacuum but reflects the culture and times in which it was created. This will cause them not only to realize, but to show the importance of being able to communicate thoughts and ideas in a cogent form so that the authors' messages and feelings can be understood and appreciated for centuries.

2. These students will be able to write and to speak in a scholarly manner about important issues that not only exist today but have existed for centuries, from before the time of Homer to the present. They will be able to argue effectively because they will have learned how to back up opinion with research findings, which they have learned to, quote and document correctly. They will have learned how to communicate clearly and effectively so that their own ideas do not become lost or ignored.

3. These students will be able to conduct research in many fields because they have learned the correct methods of researching, documenting, and incorporating findings in research papers. Those who have studied creative writing will also be able to create their own literature; this is daring and important because it involves digging deeply into themselves and fashioning into art something that did not exist before.

B. Why should students study with you as a professor?

1. Students should study with me as a professor only if they have a thirst for knowledge and an interest in expanding their horizons, which is what education is supposed to be about.

2. Students should not be caught up in the appearance of learning, trapped only in the superficial rhetoric but should, instead, be aware of the hard work that is needed to take charge of, and take responsibility for, their own education. They should be aware of the fact that education is about life-long learning and life-skills, that it is more than mere job training and that it is not finite.

3. If students study writing with me, they should be willing to face the possibility that writing and publishing is a difficult, painful process, and that creative writing requires digging into the pain and suffering of our memories because that is usually the source of the energy required to be creative. It is an uncomfortable but necessary part of the creative process, and this takes not only honesty but also great courage.

C. Why should students study in an English Language and Literature Program? [or Department of Foreign Languages]

1. Students should study in an English Language and Literature Program because it is essential, particularly in areas of the world where writing skills are reportedly the weakest, that they be able to communicate clearly, correctly, and effectively on the level of intelligent university students and, eventually, the level of university graduates who are able to compete with graduates from universities worldwide. They would become aware of the world-wide importance of the language or vocabulary with which they communicate.

2. They should study literature as well as language in order to realize that literature reflects the times, mores, and philosophies of the authors -- that its subject can be as varied as the multiple points of everyday life, with which it is connected, not as talk show topics between covers but as serious analysis of human endeavors and foibles.

3. They would recognize and appreciate the extent of the contributions of literary figures such as William Shakespeare who utilized or created words with a genius unknown before or since his time, whose vocabulary was the largest of any known English writer, and whose First Folio of his plays gave to all speakers of English more new words than any other single source**. With this recognition and appreciation they would, hopefully, build a bridge between the past and the future so that the monumental achievements of the past are not lost in the glitz and glitter of a technology that remains in the service of a transitory, materialistic world but are maintained as a foundation for a future rich with aesthetic and intellectual possibilities.

"Among the most important developments in contemporary global culture is the arrival of Western literary criticism and literary theory in China." This statement is made by W. J. T. Mitchell in his preface to the Chinese edition of A HANDBOOK OF CRITICAL APPROACHES TO LITERATURE, printed for China by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press - a text I am now using for seniors in Research Methods in Ningbo. He adds: "There is arguably no greater force in producing understanding between peoples than the transmission of literary traditions - the great heritage of narrative, lyric, and prose forms that give cultures their distinctive character." This is why, I believe, that more literature courses are needed in certain universities in China, not only one semester of British literature and one semester of American but two semesters of each. More important, students in all areas of studies should be exposed to world literature and mythology. When I taught literature in Anshan, I had to cram two semesters of information and small snippets from the primary literature into one semester. I complained about this, but to no avail. I tried to change textbooks but was not allowed to do so. This was when I was still naive enough to believe that students were attending the university to receive an education. Many students here in Ningbo have referred to me as a serious professor. Since I often make jokes in class, I assumed that they were not referring to a lack of sense of humor. You see, I had taken it for granted that all professors, foreign or domestic (Chinese), were serious about educating in the classroom. Boy, was I naive.

When I was an undergraduate back in a small college in Illinois (my home state or, as I like to call it, God's Country), I heard our instructor state that a college diploma should be handed out with a birth certificate. I never forgot his remark. What I would like to recommend today, therefore, is that those universities on both sides of the Pacific who are more concerned with maximizing profits than they are with providing a real education -- who intimidate professors who try to maintain intellectual standards --to take this simple step: eliminate all course work for students, charge the students and/or their beleaguered parents tuition for the equivalent of four years tuition, and hand to them the diploma. No pretenses. No false claims. Then those universities sincerely interested in educating students with real standards can hire the best professors and recruit only the serious students who really. . . really. . . really want to learn for the sake of knowledge. Then knowledge. . . not only virtue. . . becomes its own reward.

So much of literature, and so much of life, is based on the foundations of world mythology and the greatest literature that the geniuses of the mighty word have produced. This is what it means to be educated for the sake of being educated, not just trained for employment. Once we accept this, we might get back to what education and the teaching of literature is really supposed to be about.

We can then get serious.

* This "serious" vice-president later allowed students who had failed courses (one male had failed four courses in our English department and one female had failed two of mine alone) to walk across the graduation stage because, as he admitted to the faculty the next day in a meeting, he was intimidated by their parents.

Cyber Acoustics iCover Case for iPad Review

I was very impressed with Cyber Acoustics Digital Docking Speaker for the iPod and iPhone so I wonder what I will make of their case for the iPad?

The case is a portfolio style (book style) which I really take to. The exterior material is real leather which has its pluses and negatives. The leather is of an exceptional quality and I mean exceptional. The exterior leather is also kitted out with padding underneath, the padding is very thick and helps to give the case a really great feel. The stitching is also something that really stood out to me, every stitch is perfect and I have seen some really awful stitching done by machines many times on these kinds of cases.

This really does look like a portfolio you could easily pick this up unaware there were no papers and documents inside. The inside has a felt finish which is most welcomed due to it not scratching the iPad on entrance and exit. We see an elastic strap on the right of case inside which is there for holding the case up with your hand to demonstrate something to someone or to wrap around a car head rest for watching a film.

The iPad sits inside a rubber shock absorbent skeleton which is a fantastic design. The iPad just snaps in around the rubber corners of the skeleton. The skeleton holds the iPad very snugly and very securely, the design is fantastic.

In terms of functionality all ports and buttons are accessible because the sides are all wide open. Again the buttons are very very easy to access and use due to the skeleton design. To use the iPad within the case at different angles you have a semi loose strap of tight leather on the back which you tuck the side of the case which isn't holding the iPad into. You can two angles a 90 degree angle which is perfect for typing and another upright position perfect for watching movies and TV Shows.

The protection this is going to give your iPad is far superior to other leather cases of this nature on the market. It's thick padding and skeleton shell which the iPad sits in really help contribute towards great protection from drops, scrapes and it comes into it;'s own when traveling.

Overall the iCover is the best leather book style/ portfolio case on the market. It's highly protective, looks great and the iPad is very functional within.

The Power of Paper

Over the years, I have tried about everything available for planning, goal-setting, and project management. In my earlier years, I tended to be a gadget freak. I used PDAs, which predated the PalmPilot. I have used the Psion 3a, the Casio, various versions of the PalmPilot, various versions of the PocketPC, smartphones and enough software for my personal computers that I could have run NASA. I have settled in on Outlook, PlanPlus for Outlook by Franklin-Covey, MindManager Pro by MindJet and Microsoft Project for my basic recording (once it is developed) and keeping up to date with plans and projects. Now don't run out and purchase all of these because you may be surprised to find that I use an extremely low tech method of brainstorming and planning: pen and paper! With more years experience than I care to count, I have found pen and paper to be the most powerful medium ever developed.

In Habakkuk, we find God telling the prophet to write down his visions:

KJV Habakkuk 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Although this is used in the context of sharing a vision from God to others, there is a principle here. When we write something down and make it plain to understand, there is an anointing for those that read it to accomplish it.

In the Success Mastery Academy taught by Brian Tracy, he shared powerful information in this area with the attendees (which included many executives from Fortune 500 companies). I am going to share a summary of what he presented. (To be able to get an exact quote, I would have to listen to all twelve hours of the seminar again.) Here is my summary:

In having these men and women prepare their goals for the next year, he had them brainstorm on paper. He shared that there is a "hand to brain connection" discovered by success psychology experts that they cannot yet explain. By writing down the goals, an individual increases his chances of completing them by about 300%. To illustrate this, some in attendance made their lists, only to tuck them away in the folios they use for such conferences, and never looked at them again until the following year. To the surprise of many, when they pulled the paperwork out the next year, they had completed over 70% of the goals that they had written down!

Now imagine what would have happened if they had looked at them each week or rewrote them and expanded them each week. The power of paper is amazing. How many powerful business plans started on the back of a napkin written down during dinner at a neighborhood restaurant? How many world-changing ideas were quickly jotted down on paper when the Holy Spirit first breathed it into the heart of someone!

I personally have found that technology can be a hindrance to establishing goals, brainstorming, and jotting down inspiration or the initial phases of project planning. Paper and pen provide a permanent record of not only the ideas, but the process. It is readily available. You never have to wait for it to boot up. You never will have a pen or paper hang up on you (i.e. the MS blue screen of death). You just grab, write, scribble, draw, sketch and develop!

Here are some tips to keep you moving forward:

Always keep something with you to write with. I keep a notepad in my briefcase and on my desks at the office and home at all times. I also carry 3 x 5 cards in my pocket to jot down ideas, tasks, etc. This is paramount to you moving forward in life and ministry. You have no clue how many sermon ideas, inspirational truths and powerful teachings I have lost over the years because I did not write them down the moment they came to me. When the Holy Spirit breathes something into your spirit, there is an anointing for understanding and accomplishment in it. When you write it down, the anointing will stay with what you have written!

Once you write it down and hash it out on paper, you then can move it to some electronic format. This is really helpful if you are like me; when I write in English, everyone thinks it is in some ancient biblical language. So typing everything out is important for not only yourself, but others as well. Remember to create a file system and ALWAYS keep those papers of hand written inspiration. The anointing to understand and accomplish will always be there for you to refresh yourself when you need it.

It's time to pick up your pen - inspiration is about to be loosed in your life!

But I couldn't find the best deal, so I logged on to the world's greatest online auction site eBay to see if I could find some very great deals. I had a look at the categories on eBay and I received over 1400 hits in paper crafts category and in the Scrapbooking paper and pages category I found another 3500 hits. So money saved is also money earned. The sum of paper craft supplies on eBay is very huge and you can find a lot of paper that you can use for you paper craft design. A good tip is to check how much the postage will cost you. It's no purpose to purchase something that costs $1.99 and you pay $1.49 for delivery. Some Other tip is to purchase enough for your project, don't be afraid that you will be left too much of paper, you will definitely find the usage for that later. My last tip is to find a way to stock your papers so that you can find them easy next time. I use booklets with clear plastic folios inside and call them after color or topic. For Instance "Rose paper" and "Yellow plain paper".

Something to Look Forward To: The Toshiba Folio 100

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Apple is definitely doing a great job in the Smartphone industry. The iPhone seems to be the apple of the eye of almost all Smartphone enthusiasts. Breaking their momentum is probably a very difficult thing to do especially now that they have another success in the form of the iPad.

The design is revolutionary which makes it even more appealing. Toshiba is trying their luck to break the chain of successful devices offered by Apple with their much awaited new baby named the Toshiba Folio 100. The only question is; would fate be on their side now? Let us talk more about this interesting device and find out if it what effect it will have on Toshiba's status in the industry.

What's in a Tablet?

For the sake of others who are not completely aware of what a tablet is, it is basically a computer that offers full functionality that's presented in a flat touch display. Your finger tips are the primary mode of navigation since there is no mouse or keyboard included in the package. Some of the most famous tablets out in the market are the Apple iPad and Blackberry's Playbook. Another tablet on the list is the Toshiba Folio 100.

Specs

The humongous touch screen of the Toshiba Folio 100 is the most recognisable feature of course. It has a capacitive touch display that measures 10.1 inches. Just to compare with the iPad its screen measures 9.7 inches only, this gives the Folio a little edge on the said device.

The sizable display is expected to provide exceptional viewing experience and you simply can't expect anything less. The screen supports a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels which should be credited for the awesome vivid display. Multi-touch support is equally exceptional as well.

The processor used is the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core and boasts of a speed of 1 GHz. This is definitely an advanced feature that might just leave other netbooks in the market behind.

It has a 1.3 MP camera which is quite useful in taking pictures. It is also ideal for web/video chatting. It is a perfect device to stay connected with your family and friends despite being in a distant location.

Google-less

The Toshiba Folio 100's main feature seems to be the main reason why some folks might be disappointed with this device. Surprisingly the Folio will not run with Google Apps. That simply means that you won't be able to access the popular Android market together with the other applications that is associated with it. It may be fair to say that a number of tablet users enjoy the luxury of what Google Apps provide.

Nonetheless, the Folio 100 seems to be a very impressive device on paper. Despite not having the famed Android OS on board, we're sure that the manufacturers have come up with something to compensate. But whether or not it will match the awesome features of the Android is an altogether different question.

Real Legal Apps For Real Lawyers

Technology is very pervasive and has shown proof of its ability to transcend all kinds of activities, industries, workplaces, and careers. Even what used to be an office cluttered with books, paper and typewriter, which can be associated with the legal profession, is not immune to the advances in technology. Hence, throughout the years legal apps for lawyers have become common gadgets in effectively executing their sworn services as legal counsel to their trusting clients.

The internet has made possible the proliferation of modern workplace tools and, more particularly, lawyer apps through which people who are even miles or continents away from each other may clearly exchange communication related to their business. As the legal practice is heavily dependent on a sound client-attorney relationship, clear lines of communication are indispensable. There are unfortunate times when lawyers cannot simply attend to all pressing matters on his folio due to simultaneous deadlines and schedule of activities. However, the lawyer is nonetheless expected do the impossible mission of handling each case without any delay. With the latest legal apps, legal practitioners can exactly do those seemingly impossible tasks within such small window of time. There are times when lawyers are finding it easy to manage their responsibilities even when time and space limitations will not simply allow it. Even when on the field, meeting a client, or sitting down on a negotiation table, lawyers can transmit the all-important set of documents to another client without a fuss by availing of apps for lawyers. Decades ago, bulky templates of legal documents were just too ludicrous for a lawyer to be carrying them in a bag as they go around town. Using apps for lawyers, all these templates have become bits and bytes stored in a sweet little storage devices like flash drives, MP4 players, eBook readers, netbooks and other portable gadgets that accompany any techie lawyer out there.

Even time spent in preparing the lawyer's various documents have drastically been reduced due to some practical legal apps. There are some lawyer apps that can store and insert uniform and commonly used legal phrases, notes and comments that are the same across several memoranda under a certain category. With a few keyboard strokes using the lawyer apps, the document can be encoded and printed immediately and allow the lawyers to always beat the cut-off filing time.

The sphere of legal practice has been improved very well by technology for the greater benefit of the client, the firm and the lawyer. Nonetheless, no amount of technology can ever make a lawyer obsolete but a lawyer who does not make use of technology may become one eventually.

5 Essentials Tips For Glamor Photography

I would expect you have a keen interest in portrait photography if you are wishing to pursue this area of photography. Glamor is an extension of portraiture and encompasses consideration of both genders. Before embarking on glamor there are some essentials that you need to take into consideration; with portrait photography you are able to produce good material without considering the following, but with glamor, your results will not be glamorous unless you take heed of some basic essentials.

1. Rapport with people (critical)

Building rapport with your subject is the first essential and is mandatory. Not being able to establish a rapport with your subject will kill your session and photographs. If you take the time to know your subject, they will become more comfortable in front of the camera. When the shoot comes, you have a greater chance of getting the best natural expressions of the people you are photographing. Sit your subject and initially discuss anything to put them at ease. Many photographers still use the trick of 'talking and snapping' - not caring about the images - but spending some 'rapport time' and getting them used to the equipment. Then when they feel the subject is at ease, start concentrating on the photography and direct the session.

2. Skilled at Makeup

Makeup is another essential that cannot be side stepped. Your glamor is not going to be glamor without skill and knowledge in this area. And not just general make up techniques, make up that is specific to photography. How to highlight an area for the camera or how to shade an area for the camera. If you don't have this skill you need to acquire it. If you don't want to acquire this skill yourself, you need someone who does. There are many husband and wife teams that share the photography and the makeup. If this doesn't work you will have to employ one, but good makeup artists don't come cheap and this will add to your overheads and will have to be passed on to the client.

Doesn't matter if you are photographing guys you say. Not true; a good application of makeup will assist your photography with both male and female clients. If you are photographing a lot of females, this is essential. Particularly if you are photographing models; or shooting composites or folios for prospective models or actors; you simply can't ignore make-up. Your photographs will suffer and it will be recognized by your clients immediately. You won't be getting any return work; that much is sure. Some models can apply their own make up, but you can't rely on this. You simply have to get involved.

3. Skilled at Hair Styling

A hair stylist is just as important as your makeup artist. A good hair stylist can dramatically alter the resulting image. Again you may be able to do this yourself or have a team member that can assist, but this is an equal essential to your make up requirements.

4. Posing Expertise

One of most difficult areas of glamor photography or any type of portrait photography is posing. What do I get my client to do? I found this one of the most difficult skills to grasp and so do many novice photographers. But this is a skill like many other areas in photography and can be easily acquired.

With posing, you need to be able to relate to your client (rapport), but also relate to their features, flattering lighting, clothing and poses. A great way to start is to get some posing ideas together, as many as you can, and practice on friends. Discover what works and what doesn't. Identify what different features demand in terms of poses; file these away for future reference. Keep a folder of poses that you like and know work. Bring this out when you have a paying client; put in somewhere so you can constantly refer to it, change poses to suit or modify ones that show promise. When you have done this hundreds of times you will probably end up not requiring the use of your 'pose file'. But still maintain it, you will always find it useful as there is an infinite variety of poses.

If you still have difficulty or want more ideas there are posing courses and resources available. And don't worry about copying poses. You have a different person, in a different environment, with different equipment, a different photographer; your result will look nothing like what you're emulating.

5. The Right Equipment

Yes, unfortunately it's true; this is where you need some equipment beyond just a camera. To be successful at glamor, you need to be able to provide dramatic lighting. This means having some simple means of shaping light. You could get by with just one light and a reflector but I would suggest at least three lights as well as reflectors. You need one light each for sides of your subject, generally no more than one stop apart, and a hair light. A hair light is most important, particularly if you have just spent $200 for a hair stylist.

In addition to lighting you will need some neutral backgrounds that will make your subject stand out. There are many varieties in paper, canvas and other materials. Neutrals are best as they don't compete with your subject. Not sure what to get? Start out with grey; with lighting techniques you can make this appear white, grey or black.

There is a lot more that goes into glamor photography but if you want to make a start, these are the basic essentials. Work on these 5 Essentials and you are well on your way.

A Leather Briefcase Review

The leather briefcase is an item of luggage that has been around for many years; businesspeople and professionals generally use it alike to carry important documents, papers or even today, as many do a laptop. The leather briefcase of today was originally derived from the flimsy "satchel" that was used by many back in the fourteenth century for carrying valued goods and monies. This satchel was named the budget, which came from the Latin word bulga that means leather bag.

There are three common types of briefcase, the portfolio which is a case without a handle and thus carried under the arm, these are often made from brown leather, the folio, this is identical to the portfolio but with a retractable handle, and lastly the attaché case. This is the case that is probably most commonly used today. It has a box-style design with 2 compartments which can perfectly house both a laptop and documents without either item being damaged.

The black leather briefcase is most commonly associated with lawyers as they would historically use them to carry their briefs to court, they are now however consistently used by professionals in all fields of work, and used by men and women alike. The metal framed and leather briefcases of today date back to around the 1850s and now come in a variety of different colors and sizes to suit anyone's needs. There are even attaché cases that can be purchased made from metals such as aluminum. These are generally used by people carrying large sums of money or extremely important documents, and are always fitted with combinations locks and are even on occasion attached to the person by handcuffs.

The modern day leather briefcases can vary hugely in price and design, some even come with snakeskin design! Nearly every designer label of today have at least one briefcase on their line, most will have both a male and female one, these can obviously fetch a very a very high premium and are thought of by many as a fashion accessory as the handbag and even suitcases can now be thought of in today's climate. They are still primarily carried by businessmen and women to carry important documents and files to and from the office and have over the years become synonymous with the business world and there is therefore very few that will be seen without one, particularly lawyers, judges and clerks.

Book Review - Rich Dad Poor Dad

As an entrepreneur, I'm a great believer in feeding the mind with relevant literature. And so with that in mind I take the time to review books which might help you in your quest for financial independence and success in your home based business.

Here I'm reviewing a book written in 1997 by Robert Kiyosaki called 'Rich Dad Poor Dad'.

The book is centered around the advice given by both his father and the entrepreneurial father of his friend Mike, and documents the contrast in approaches, and the attitudes towards, finances of these two patriarchs.

While Robert's father was an academic with conservative views on how to plan a career, Mike's dad had very different views and it's this polarity that makes for very interesting reading.

"Study hard, specialize in one skill, and get a good retirement pension!." was the advice of Robert's father, while Mike's dad's encouragement was, "Don't specialize, but learn a little bit about a lot of things, so that one day you can run your own business."

The book illustrates how the thinking of the 1950's, when a person could have a job for life, is still prevalent today, and Robert argues that this way of thinking has been rendered ineffective in the information driven world in which we live.

Robert's provocatively titled book caused quite a stir in America but has sold over 28 million copies.

While the author has many interesting things to share with the reader, some of his investment strategies are just as subject to the economic winds of change as any other. In one chapter he mentions property being his foundation for investing, the cash flow of which feeds his more speculative moves. While that may have been a sagacious move in the late 90's, the sub-prime disaster of the 'noughties' has shown that even property investing is vulnerable to economic ebbs and flows.

He goes on to laud those who invest in mutual funds saying that a "low-risk folio of investments is better than no portfolio." But tell that to the millions of people who have seen the value of their paper go the way of the worm recently.

Robert dishes up a lot of great principles and words of wisdom though - gleaned from his Rich Dad and its these points rather than his investment preferences that make this book worth considering for the aspiring entrepreneur.

Much of what he writes challenges the very culture of western academia and it's refreshing to see someone turn our ingrained career strategies on their heads and make a compelling case in favor of financial education in our schools.

And this thinking goes beyond school and launches head-long into our places of work;

"Don't go to work for what you can earn, but for what you can learn." he explains, supporting moving from job to job to gain experience over staying in the same job and becoming a specialist.

It's not surprising that his book has sold so many copies as it would appeal to the person who is questioning their career choices and considering starting their own home based business.

So to sum up; Rich Dad Poor Dad, is an easy read of 200 pages with some great principals for building wealth. But like anything else, you need to decide for yourself which investments suit you and suit the time you're living in.

Lexmark Optra W840 Printer - Power and Performance From This Pro

In this review we will have a peek at the new Lexmark Optra W840 printer using Lexmark Optra W840 toner. This recently released printer is a dedicated monochrome laser designed for workgroups and networking. Deciding which printer matches your companies necessities best is not an easy call to make.

The huge variety of options available makes it hard to know which model is best for your business. There are no end of accessories coming out that promise to increase efficiency and speed. The question is if you actually need them and want to pay for the privilege.

This particular printer is designed as a networking printer. This means it has the right features so that a number of computers can hook up to it as a printer server. For it to do this, it needs a high processing speed and enough RAM to deal with the higher printing volume and longer printing queues multiple users create. Fast printing is also a bonus in order to keep up with busy offices.

This model certainly fits that description. It has a cracking 625 MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM that can be easily upgraded to 768 MB if you need to, high resolution and fast printing. The cost of this printer is around $2,000. Needless to say this is not a home use printer. It is a high specification unit for busy offices that need a dedicated networking printer at an acceptable price.

It handles a variety of media sizes and types. You will be covered for printing on envelopes, cards, fine paper and transparencies and the like. It does not, however, print on polyester and vinyl labels. It can handle sizes up to Letter A size and Folio Size, but does not allow for larger A3 or A2. You will need a larger printer for those kind of capabilities.

The sheet trays included are a large 500 page automatic feeder tray and a smaller multipurpose tray for 100 sheets. Larger trays are available for a premium on the price of the basic model. The truth is that this model comes with a whole array of available upgrades that make it an ideal option for customers who know what they need and do not want to pay for features they are not planning to use.

This model comes with an expansion slot and two input ports, a standard USB port and an older parallel port. Wi-Fi capabilities are not built in and must be purchased as an extra. However, if what you are looking for is a solid workgroup printer you will be happy with the high performance this model can deliver.

The Lexmark Optra W840 printer comes standard with a fast top of the range processing chip of 625 MHz, 256 MB of RAM and plenty of room for upgrades. With a price tag around the $2,000 mark this is most certainly not an option for home users, but a great investment for businesses that want a high quality dedicated monochrome laser printer at a price that does not cost the earth. An Overview on Demat Account Charges in India

DEMAT account is more or less an essential requirement for all the investors who invest in equities, bonds and debentures. Despite various efforts by the regulators to make electronic transactions as cheap as possible for the ordinary investors, the charges for DEMAT accounts continue to remain on the higher side. Depending upon the individual profile, requirements and suitability, different investors open DP accounts with banks, online broking houses or local brokers. In this article, I have given an overview on the prevailing DEMAT charges in India.
DEMAT Account charges can be broadly divided into the following three main categories.

Account Opening and Documentation Charges

It is a one-time charge that has to be paid at the time of opening of DEMAT Account. Most of the Banks and Stock Trading Brokers do not charge any fees towards account opening but some of them may charge you a nominal fee for stamp paper on which you have to execute the agreements with the brokers.

Folio Maintenance Charges or Annual Maintenance Charges (AMC)

The charges vary from Rs. 200 to Rs.750 per year, which are generally required to be paid at the commencement of the year. However, some of the banks and brokers may charge you every month or quarter.

Transaction Charges

Transaction Charge is the charge for Debit of Shares (when you sell) from your DP account. Please note that as per the regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India), no broker or bank can levy transaction charges for Credit of Shares (when you buy), that means, it is free. Therefore, don't be misled by the agents who say that they offer 'Free Credit of Shares'. The transaction charges are in the range of 0.02% to 0.04% of the transaction value subject to a minimum charge of Rs.12 to Rs.25 per transaction. Some of the brokers like Reliance Money, India Bulls and Geojit charge Flat Fees of the order of Rs.10 to Rs.12 per transaction.

In addition to the above three main charges, there are charges for Dematerialization or Rematerialization of Shares, Pledge Services, and off-market transfers. However, for most of the ordinary investors, these charges are rarely applicable.

Few Important Points Worth Noting:

In addition to the basic charges as explained above, you have to pay service tax and education cess, the rate of which at present is 10.3% Many banks waive off annual maintenance charges for the first year. You may have to pay extra charges for physical account statements; however, if you opt for E-Statements, you do not have to pay any charges. If you have a Trading and DP account with the same broker, you may save substantial amount on AMC and transactions charges. Many online brokers offer you low charges initially but they may revise it subsequently. Therefore, while choosing the broker or bank for opening new DEMAT account, you should consider all the factors such as service, convenience, and your frequency and volume of transactions instead of taking the decision based only on the charges.

Basic County Sheriff Sale Information For Beginners

The first thing I want you to know is all information about county sheriff sale events across America is free and covered under state's Freedom of Information Act. If you want to pay someone to collect this on your behalf that is your decision. I just don't want anyone to be taken advantage of by a company that states it's necessary to pay them a fee for these lists of properties because that is not true. What ever the case make sure you exercise your right to be an informed citizen and only pay for things out of convenience instead of trickery. While it may take a small bit of effort you can always get your hands on the documents about your county sheriff sales at no charge to you.

The second thing is local authorities conduct these types of sales around the country every year and even several times a year depending upon location in an auction type of format. One thing to understand is that while all jurisdictions conduct forced sales the 5 different types of properties listed below some localities may call their auction something other than a county sheriff sale. The deciding factor is wither a sheriff is the one presiding over the sale or another authority. The quickest way to get the answer to this question is to just pick up the phone and ask your local sheriff's office. If they are not the ones conducting the auction they will be able to point you to the right department.

The next thing has to do with the common misconception is that one can purchase almost any property for little to nothing. Yes, It is entirely possible to buy at a nice discount but only if you have a deeper knowledge of the process, people involved, and best properties to target. However, the opportunity to plunk down amounts under one hundred dollars and walk away with a piece of land or a home is quite small.

Most Common Types of Properties sold at local sheriff's sales (In no special order):

1. Properties to satisfy a judgment.
2. Mortgage foreclosure properties.
3. Distressed properties with municipal liens.
4. Tax sale properties.
5. Government seized properties.

One of the key factors in finding a good deal is to understand how to properly research the list of potential investment candidates. The first thing we want to do is correctly establish the owner or record. This is important because often people focus on properties that have little to no chance of getting at a good price. An example of this would be foreclosures that have recent mortgages (1 - 10 years) a substantial amount of money owed upon them. If this is the case the first bidder is usually the bank because they will not let their property go at prices such as twenty cents on the dollar. After, they bid the property up and successfully purchase themselves they are free to sell it in the free market to recover a much larger amount of their money. In other words it is often difficult to purchase these types of properties at a county sheriff sale at a price that will make it worth while.

This does not mean you should give up on the idea of buy real estate at these types of forced auctions. It just means you should focus your efforts on properties that the government owns or controls. A few from the above list would be seized, tax sale, and ones with municipal liens. There is a good reason why this statement is usually true because the local government is concerned about recovering monies owed to them first. This means things such as market value and other factors one usually worries about when selling a property is not a priority. In other words this is the niche where you have better opportunity when attending sheriffs sales.

If you want to get an idea of what a minimum bid may be on these properties all you need to do is go to your local treasurers or property tax office and pull the file on the parcel in question. Remember, when you go to do this to have the identifying number in hand. Depending upon your part of the country it may be called folio number, tax map number, parcel number, or another variation. This will give you an idea of the lowest amount the local authorities will accept at a county sheriff sale but keep in mind you may have competition from other buyers which will cause the price to go up. Then it would be smart to compare that figure to what it would sell and you'll have a decent set of numbers to base any potential bidding decision upon.

The last thing you may want to do before you try and purchase any piece of property at your county sheriff sale is to simply go on a drive. I mean actually get in your car and drive by the real estate that most interests you. This will tell you a whole lot about the neighborhood and give you further insight into the condition of the property and it's potential future use. The numbers on paper are vital but a bit of good old fashion "gum shoe" detective work often can pay dividends as well. Good Luck and please remember one thing. It's your money so invest it wisely!

London Office Supplies - Online Ordering

The internet has existed for over a decade and the number of online retailers has proliferated. Consumers are drawn to these shopping sites for some quite obvious reasons: the convenience of shopping from home; people lead busy lives and have less time to visit their local high streets; online retailers have smaller overheads and can therefore offer their customers cheaper goods; the range of products online cannot be matched by the high street and the modern consumer is increasingly after something unique or rare.

With this rationale in mind, you might expect that people would substitute the homogenous and uninspiring shopping streets of Britain's cities for the ease and the overwhelming opportunity of the internet. Many do, but judging by my recent trip to a frenzied Oxford Street: many don't. From this limited evidence, there is one rather simple explanation: shopping online appeals to people because of its practicality; but people still enjoy the experience of going out to the shops and interacting with one another (especially women).

In a business-to-business environment, the priorities of the customer are quite different. The 'experience' part of the transaction is arguably insignificant to him or her. The customer often wants to find the right products quickly; they want control their costs and they want to keep an accurate record of what they have bought. Using these measures, ordering online makes perfect sense. Many of my employer's customers have opted for online ordering for these very reasons. Currently, 52.5% of all orders at RED BOX are made online. The figure was only 39.6%, the same time last year. There are some good explanations for why the figure has increased by over 10% since 2006.

Online ordering enables financial controllers to exercise a degree of spending-control over the people who place the orders. Customers can restrict access so that their ordering teams can only order a limited set of products (the products that they usually buy), they can impose authorisation procedures on products that do not belong to their contract list and set spending limits. Prices (cost plus margin) can be tailored so that the customer will always pay the same margin on every product they buy. Every single product purchase is recorded and the customer can create a variety of reports to analyse their spending patterns. These measures provide a level of transparency and real-time spend-control unavailable when ordering by phone or fax or from suppliers who have more underhand pricing policies.

Potentially, online ordering can remove the need to print large volumes of catalogues that rapidly go out of date and provides an easier way to locate products. My employer RED BOX supplies studio and presentation products to a huge number of London's creative companies. The Creation Station microsite was launched recently to replace the arts and graphics catalogue. The site can be accessed from the home page of the RED BOX website and features top of the range presentation products, studio supplies, pads, books, folios, cases and lots more, including helpful hints, tips and colour charts.

The microsite is more favourable over a standard catalogue because changes can be made to it continuously when prices alter and products become discontinued and/or new ones are introduced. It has greater functionality; products are not only arranged in categories in sequential order, but interlinked so that the customer can move efficiently around the site. Fewer catalogues of course reduces the dependence on paper and therefore helps to reduce the environmental impact and costs in production and delivery.

The automated system of online ordering cannot cope with all situations. Despite the growing number of online orders, human support is still required. At RED BOX a team of two maintain the system and provide help and assistance to customers who use online ordering. Compared to orders by phone and fax, the system is able to handle a greater number of orders per employee. However, ordering over the telephone enables the customer to receive an instant response to a product or price enquiry that an online ordering system cannot deliver - yet. For the foreseeable future, RED BOX will continue to allow its customers to order by the method that best suits their needs.

Private Piano Lessons - Are They a Waste of Time?

Let me say from the start that I have nothing against private piano lessons. I think there are good teachers out there who can help you reach your goals. Having said that, I do have some things to say about them from personal experience.

My goal was to find a private piano teacher who could help me create my own music in the style I enjoyed - New Age piano. I knew a few chords but what I really wanted was a mentor; someone who could already compose and improvise and help me do the same. And so I searched my city of San Diego for a teacher.

I found someone who I thought could help me (because of the brochure he mailed) and made an appointment. The first thing he did was assess what I already knew...which was what he was supposed to do. Fine. I showed him the chords I could play.

Then, for some bizarre reason, he started writing out chords on a piece of paper and that was the rest of the lesson! Talk about disappointing! And a waste of time and money.

I soon discovered, much to my dismay, that I probably wasn't going to find private piano lessons that would help me reach my goal. Now, if my goal was learning classical piano, there are literally thousands of teachers out there who could just whip out a folio and have me go through the book.

But I really wanted to be able to create my OWN music. Why was that so difficult?

My search finally took me to my local libraries where I discovered the books and materials to help me.

Look, I'm not saying that there aren't any good private piano lessons out there. I'm saying there are other ways to reach your music goals.

Brand Building 101 - Does Your Business Card Build Your Brand?

When we are at a networking event or meeting a client, it's almost guaranteed that we will exchange business cards. Very often, without realising it, we are assessing our colleague by their business card, and asking ourselves:

Is the card professionally designed Is the card crumpled at the edges? How does the weight of the card feel - substantive or flimsy? Does it look like the card has been made on their PC - or worse still does it have a message at the bottom of the card to say where you too can access free cards?

I have collected thousands of business cards over my time in business and every time I am sub-consciously assessing the professional status of them and their business when I receive their business card. We review someones card at least 3 times:

once on receiving it a second time when we put it in our pocket, folio or bag as we leave the meeting and a third time as we make a decision to keep it, transfer the information into our data bank or bin it!

Our business card is a critical part of our marketing collateral and even if you can not afford to put in place other marketing materials, short changing the investment in developing a professional business card is definitely not something we should do if we are looking to develop a professional brand. When meeting someone in person, alongside how you present yourself in person, your business card can enhance or devalue the strength of your brand and how you are perceived by others. Here are four tips to enhance your brand through your business card:

Ensure that you work with a professional designer to develop your business card. It's not whether you like the design, it's about whether it will represent your business effectively and professionally to your target audience Ideally have your card printed on 400g card and by a traditional lithographic printer. Yes it is more expensive than digital printing, but the quality is worth investing in and a litho print gives far greater definition to your corporate identity and the colour of your brand Matt laminate your card on the reverse for extra stability and style. Don't laminate both sides as people will not be able to write on your card - we often note down things to remember about the person we met on their card Use the valuable real estate on the back of your card to provide a call to action, for example, how to access your white paper or special report on your web site.

Take Action: Over the next 30 days, take the opportunity to review the business cards of your contacts and assess their card against yours.

What can you learn from other peoples cards? How could you take those learnings and further enhance your card?

Your goal is to ensure that your business card is a positive reflection of both you and your company, and it represents a strong brand. Invest in your business card, distribute it widely and you will be sure of expanding your professional success.

How to Have Fun With Mail Order and Maybe Even Make Some Money

First off, you can have a lot of fun with mail order even if you don't make a lot of money. It is something that can be done at home, by anyone regardless of their physical condition as long as they can read and write. I don't mean that you have to be an intellectual. Most of mail order is conducted in simple easy to understand language.

Let's take the example of a bed ridden person, still at home with his or her family. This example has very little money to spend, is bored to tears with television, either does not want to or cannot read novels or non-fiction.

...Or, it could be the person taking care of an invalid who cannot leave the house just anytime they want to and who also is not loaded with cash to spare..

...Or it could be the housewife with little kids who needs an interest in life.

...Or it could be the retired person with too much time on his or her hands.

...Or it could be the shy bashful person who has difficulty in dealing with people face to face.

...Or it could be the physically repulsive person, or handicapped person who dreads facing the public.

The one thing you can do is make your daily mail an event to look forward to. You can do this cheaply.

One way is to just order something by mail. In your newspaper, usually on Sunday there are often inserts from companies like Sunset House, Walter Drake Co. etc. that offer inexpensive items. Order something from them even if it barely meets their minimum order.

These companies eventually sell their Address Lists to other companies and you will start receiving catalogs and offers. I ordered some inexpensive address labels in September. It is November now and so far I have received catalogs for clothing, cheese, fruit cakes, five mail order houses like Walter Drake Co., office supplies, and several others.

Place magazine subscriptions, as many as you can afford and for things that interest you. They too sell their subscription lists.

Just these two things will get you pounds and pounds of what some people call junk mail and what I call fun mail. You don't have to order any of the things you get offers for. Just when your fun mail slows down, order something cheap or place another magazine subscription and your fun mail will speed up again.

There is another way to make your mailbox more interesting. There are thousands of mail order dealers who publish newsletters or small ad sheets and sell information by mail. Many of them offer classified ads for anywhere from 5 cents to 10 cents a word. Many of them offer to publish your camera ready ad 1 inch size for $1.00. Placing an ad in any one of them will flood your mailbox with mail. Some of them have a "BIG MAIL WANTED" column. For $1.00 or $2.00 they will list your name and address as a "BIG MAIL WANTED". The flood of mail will become a torrent.

Most of this mail will be offers of ways to make money, and copies of other newsletters and ad sheets sent in the hope that you will place an ad in their publication too. You do not have to respond to any of this flood of offers. Once again for a $1.00 bill and a postage stamp, you have increased your daily mail ten fold or more. Later we will discuss how you can use this flood of mail to make money yourself. Right now we are just discussing the FUN of mail order.

Once again, when the flood slows down, palace an ad in any of the sample copies of newsletters or ad sheets and the flood will start up again.

For the purpose of fun mail it does not matter what your ad is trying to sell. Your intent is just to get on people's mailing lists so that your daily mail is the receipt of something besides bills from creditors.

Following is some sample ads you might place that do not require you to send them anything back.

BIG MAIL WANTED. Send me your best offers. (your name and address)

Opportunities Wanted! All offers welcome. (your name and address)

It takes a while for the flood of mail to start but when it does you are going to receive so many offers of ways to make money that your head will spin. You never have to respond to any of these offers. If your purpose is just to have fun mail, the only thing you ever need to do is:

Order something by mail like a magazine subscription or from anyone's mail order catalog

Place another $1.00 ad in someone's newsletter or ad sheet.

BUT MAYBE YOU WILL BECOME INTERESTED IN TRYING TO MAKE MONEY IN MAIL ORDER YOURSELF.

You certainly are going to see hundreds of ways other people are trying to make money. Here is a partial list of what you will receive if you place an ad with the people listed above. If you think you will want to dabble in mail order yourself, I suggest you place a $1.00 ad with all three people. They are from different parts of the United States and will have different mailing lists. Your ad will be seen by 1000 people in each newsletter or ad sheet. For $3.00 your name will probably be picked up by at least 1/2 of these people and probably more.

The offers you will probably receive are:

Copies of other newsletters, and ad sheets. A copy of each ad sheet or newsletter that your ad is in. Chain letters Multi-level sales schemes Information sellers Ad sellers Offers for you to sell books Offers for you to sell information Offers to introduce you to mail order Requests for money Requests for coupons, stamps, etc. Offers from other people who what you to place ads with them. Offers to sell magazines. Post office laws - you buy Offers to sell you BIG MAIL packets Offers to do typesetting Offers to sell rubber stamps Offers to sell labels Print and Mail offers Offers to sell name lists Offers to sell "How to" books Offers to sell "How to" reports and folios AND MANY MORE

At some point in time you will be tempted to stop thinking of this flood of mail as fun mail and start calling it opportunity mail. (I still call it fun and opportunity mail.)

Let me warn you. Chain letters re illegal. Dave Rhoads and Edward Green do not exist. You can not make money with chain letters. A chain letter tells you to mail $1.00 or more to three or four people and place your name in number three of four position and mail out copies to 100 or more people. You are told that when you name reaches #1 position you will make a fortune. Don't believe it. You will spend $29.00 in postage to mail 100 copies and you will never receive even one dollar back. (Jason Robards doesn't exist either.)

Some of these will include an offer to send you 100 names and addresses to mail your circulars to, for a price. Don't fall for it. Some of them will request stamps instead of dollars. The stamp chain letter activity is very high right now. People think it is not illegal because no money is involved.

You wouldn't get into any trouble by trying these schemes. The Post Office can't possibly catch everyone doing it and doesn't prosecute participants. But you will waste your money and this particular activity does nothing to increase your fun and opportunity mail.)

Another thing to beware of is multi-level marketing. You will receive hundreds of schemes from simple ones to schemes so complex you can read the offer for hours and still not comprehend what they are offering. There are some legitimate multi-level schemes but they are based on the old pyramid structure. In order for you to actually make money with them you have to devote hours and hours and dollars and dollars in postage building up what they call downlines - people you are supposed to sign up to sell the same thing. Beware of these. They always fail in the end and many people have lost a lot of money on them. Save any participation in multi-level marketing until you have really absorbed mail order in general and read the articles written by experts, pro and con.

If you have decided to get your feet wet, I suggest you start by trying to sell information. I did not intend this article to be a sales presentation and I am making this offer only to help you get started. You can sell this report. Here are several ways to market it:

Place the following ad in as many ad sheets and newsletters as you can afford. Place several in publications that offer to print and mail your ad for $1.00. Place at least one in a publication that is mailed to 5,000 or 10,000 circulation.

HOW TO HAVE FUND WITH MAILORDER. AND MAYBE MAKE SOME MONEY. Send $2.00 to: (your name and address)

Start with the advertisers mentioned earlier and if you can afford to do so, also place this ad in several publications. It will be a 2" ad and will cost $2.00 instead of $1.00:

HOW TO HAVE FUN WITH MAILORDER AND MAYBE MAKE SOME MONEY. Detailed report. Put some FUN MAIL into your life. Make money too if you want to. Send $2.00 for report. (your name and address).

If you can afford to do so, also place this ad. It will be a $1.00 ad.

HOW TO HAVE FUND WITH MAILORDER AND MAYBE MAKE SOME MONEY. SEND FIRST CLASS STAMP TO: (your name and address)

Attached to this report is a circular designed to sell this report. In ad #3 above, when you receive a stamp and a request you will then send them the circular with your name on it as the seller. Just insert your name and have copies made at your local copy center.

You will also have copies of this report made to send to people who respond to ads #1, #2 or to the circular. Don't make the copies until you receive your first order. Then make about 10 copies at a time.

This exercise is just to get your feet wet. It shows you that whatever you decide to sell, you carry a theme for your ads and circulars. The name of this one is "How to Have Fun with Mailorder and Maybe Make Some Money". It is in every ad. It is the title of the circular. It is the tile of the report itself.

You will only make $2.00 less copy and postage costs for each report sold but you are learning how to handle paperwork and orders. You are seeing your Fun and Opportunity Mail turn into Money Producing Mail. Every day you can't wait for the mail to arrive with a few dollar bills in it.

Will you make a fortune selling this report. NO. You won't. You'll get most of your responses from ad #3 and mot of your sales from the circular you send out. You'll make a few dollars, yes. These dollars will trickle in over a period of months. Some will start arriving within a month and they'll hit a peak and then go on for about a year, one or two orders at a time..

You can now consider some of the other offers you have received and seen in the various publications you receive. If you have handled the paperwork with the sale of this report you can add another offer. Maybe you'll sign up for a dealership to sell rubber stamps or you'll try Print and Mail. Certainly the purchase of a rubber stamp with your name and address on it is not a lost money effort. You can use it for your personal correspondence if you decide to forget mail order. With a rubber stamp you can offer to mail circulars, etc. for other people. They send you their circulars, you rubber stamp your name and address in the Order Form section and you mail them out.

You can mail four pieces of paper 8-1/2 x 11 for a first class stamp. You should have at least four things to offer so you don't waste postage.

The people who make money in mail order started this way. Some of you will go on to become full time mail order professionals. Some of you will just dabble around for the fun of it and keep the fun and opportunity mail going. How do you become professional?

You keep adding things to your agenda. You can reinvest all the money you receive into more ads. You sign up for more dealerships. You send for a few books on mail order success and study everything you receive in the mail. You read all the articles published in the newsletters.

You may decide to design your own circulars, prepare your own reports. You may sell recipes. You keep getting more and more involved until you are offering as many as 50 to 100 different things in ads. You place ads in all the newsletters and ad sheets and have 10 to 12 ads running at any given time. Your mail box gets fuller and fuller. You may try to publish your own ad sheet or newsletter. After studying the field for a full year you may select one or two of the multi-level schemes to try. (Be sure it is one that sells a product of some kind that is drop shipped. Do not invest your money in a product that will sit on your shelf forever if you can't sell it!)

You join a few of the associations of dealers. You correspond with other dealers. Some of them have become so successful that they bought their own printshop. Others at least invested in a copy machine and a computer.

You develop you own address list and maintain it. To be professional, you just keep at it and if one thing fails you try another. If one ad doesn't get response you try another.

Remember, you develop your business as you go along and as you can afford it in both time and money. If money runs out you can pause and continue again when you can.

What you do is entirely up to you.

If you want fast response place ad #3 in The National Enquirer, Star or Globe scandal sheet. It costs a lot but you should get lots of requests to send your circular to and many of them will result in orders.
